here is a tag question on 43061 .. this is similar to the types of problems i continue to miss yet recognize after the fact .. it was originally tagged Removing Defender which fits, but i think it may also be an example of Overloading .. the definition i'm using comes from dlester:
Quote
Overloading:  Whenever a piece is performing two or more roles, usually defensive, but those pieces are attacked (or can be attacked).  Obviously when the first capture happens the subsequent recapture will hang the other piece.  I would imagine it is difficult, if not impossible, to really make a distinction between an overload and a double attack since the only real way to exploit an overload is with a double attack. [dlester]

any comments on the correct tag(s) and/or suggestions on how to recognize situations like these that i continue to miss?

I would not call this problem overloading.  Overloading is when one piece is protecting two different pieces (or squares).  You take one of the pieces and when the overloaded piece captures, the other piece it was protecting is no longer protected.

In this problem you are just removing the defender of the rook on c2.  Black would be happy if he could capture on e3 with his Nd5, but that's not possible because the knight is pinned (Qa8 would be hanging).  So he must capture with his bishop, and the rook on c2 is hanging.

So this problem should be labeled Removing Defender and Pin.  I don't see any piece here that is overloaded (defending two other pieces).

By the way, Overloading is almost always a subset of Removing Defender.  I don't think I've ever seen an Overloading problem that was not also Removing Defender.

thanks, Drahacik, for the clarification .. i see you must have corrected the tags .. i'm still a little confused, but i'll continue to post tagging questions here until i feel confident in making better calls

on this one, 43061, i saw Ne3 as overloaded because it was protecting Nd5 as well as Rc2 .. but Nd5 isn't really involved in the problem other than as you point out being pinned protecting the queen .. on first glance, it didn't appear that pin would be an appropriate tag here, but it certainly is

i'll append your descriptions of overloading to my developing text file of definitions which come primarily from dlester and Richard's reply in the New tagging suggestions thread

btw, since most posts here seem to be about problem solutions, when i post a tagging question should i leave the subject as just the problem number, make it "nnnnn tagging?" or perhaps just start a single thread called "tagging questions"? i have a feeling i'll have quite a few more before i begin to fully understand the categories

thanks again

Probably a new topic "tagging questions" would be good, instead of a new topic for every problem.
