Hello again.

DGT E-Boards are so expensive! Everywhere I look they seem to be made exclusively out of wood - is there a cheap plastic one available for those with a limited budget?

On an entirely separate point: I've got Silman's Complete Endgame Course. How useful is this for me as an ungraded novice, and what difference is there to Pandolfini's endgame course?

Thanks again for all your considered and eloquent advice.

I have never seen a "cheap" DGT board - I think the reasoning behind is that they are quite a bit of a piece of technology, aimed at people with no cash problems, hence the producers won't see a market for having plastic versions (you would still have the cost of the electronics behind...)

When I play long games (60/game and up) I do my "own" version of a DGT board, putting my wooden tournament board in front of the PC, and reproducing there the moves I see on screen.

Of course there is the risk of doing mistakes when reproducing the move, hence you have to be very careful in doing that...

There is actually one. The novag citrine is "cheap" compared to the overpriced DGT board. Altough I don't think the software is as good as in DGT (arena vs chessbase).

Doesn't look like a DGT board to me, but "just" a chess computer (I may be wrong though!)

What I mean is that I don't think you can connect it to your PC and use it to play in sites like Playchess or ICC, but only to play against the built-in computer.
