Dear all,

I would like an advice with regards to chess lessons. In two weeks time, I will start with a set of 10 on line group lessons, over the course of 10 weeks, mainly devoted to tactics. I applied because the cost is very reasonable, and I liked the idea of adding some instructor-lead activities to my learning routine.

For next year, I am considering something which is called “Chess Academy”: it is a very well structured program, with qualified teachers giving personalized lessons online, via a chess server and Skype with webcam: the cost is less reasonable (for obvious reasons). The program is ambitious, over the course of a full year, with weekly lessons, homework, and progress tests conducted regularly throughout the year.

What is your take on this? Do you have any experience with regards to chess lessons?

Thanks in advance for any input!

"Don't know, do care" would me my vote .. in any complex subject depending on the unique chemistry between instructor and student, instructor led interaction and feedback can be vital to learning .. even with a poor instructor, the dynamic can yield good results when the student works hard .. good luck with it
