new problems are rated too low

Hi,
i like you website very much.
In the last few days you added a lot of new problems.
Because they are new i must admit that it´s difficult to give them a rating so you just took the rating 1500 for all new problems.
By reaching a higher rating (atm i have something above 1700) you get +1 or +2 for the right answer but you lose -5 or more for any fault.
Some of these new problems are certainly not level 1500. From my point of view i would say that more of them will get a level above 1500.
So i suggest that you simply raise this rating for new problems up to 1600.
btw. how many players must solve a new problem until it get´s a rating ?
Best Regards

I think a better solution to this problem would be to give all new problems a "provisional" rating until at least 20 or 25 people have attempted them. During this provisional period, getting a problem wrong (or right) would not affect your rating very much but it would affect the rating of the problem. Then as soon as the problem is out of 'provisional' status it would affect a user's rating fully.
I'm not sure how it works now....maybe there is some kind of provisional system in place...honestly I haven't payed attention to the ratings of the problems very closely. But, if there isn't....there probably should be.

Hiya,
Currently there is no provisional rating system in place. Problem ratings do move fairly quick due to their initial high RD. I like angrypirates idea and will try and implement a provisional system before the next large problem injection occurs. Unfortunately I will not have time to do this right now, so we'll have to wait for the new problems to get rated. At the moment just under half of the new problems have a non-1500 blitz rating and over 2/3 of the new problems have a non-1500 standard rating.
Regards,
Richard.
