newlook:
1.Nd5 forking the queen and the knight and opening up your rook! So 1...Nxd5. Then 2.Rh3+ Kg8 (ok, he could put his queen in the way, Qh6, then you take it and take the knight) 3.Bh7+! Kh8 4.Bg6+! (to block Black's queen from h6) Kg8 5.Rh8+!! Kxh8 6.Qh5+ Kg8 7.Qh7 mate. Very pretty.
1.Na4 with the same ideas, if 1...Nxa4 then 2.Rh3+ and the same pretty forced mate, or he has to put his queen in the way.
It seems 1.Nd5 and 1.Na4 might be better than the simple 1.Qh5+ Qh6 2.Qxc5 which wins "only" a piece. With these moves, he either gets mated or loses his queen for a rook.

Here's a position from one of my games on FICS that I can't resist sharing: White to play and win. The position is extremely strong for white, but there's one move that wins the easiest.

cyanfish, nice position! The Chess Imager you used seems like a great resource for posting positions in the forum. I have been looking for something like it. There are many scripts that webmasters can put on their own page, but that's the only one I've seen that lets you embed a chess position into a forum on a different website.

hi, yeah that Chess Imager looks nice. I didn't even check first where the picture is coming from.
As being dynamically generated picture it is using web site processing power. If there is a lot of requests to use that resource it may get overused.

Yeah, I actually just found it when I searched for "chess image generator". I'm pretty sure the guy hosting it has a lot of bandwidth, but nonetheless it'd probably be wise to avoid using it excessively (though for our purposes, it'd probably be all right).
I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but I think it would be good for Chess Tempo to have a mechanism to display a position and/or game in the forum - that would avoid reliance on other hosts for such images (and make it more convenient).

Ah, yes, if only I had used the right search term, "generate"! I found another one by chessvideos.tv: Chess Diagram Generator. The to-move circle doesn't work. It's always at the bottom. But the plus side is that it's a little more user-friendly.

I'm glad user's have found some useful position generators. This has been a long running todo item and I'm still planning to have this is as an easy option more closely integrated into the forum (for both embedding actual problems as well as embedding static positions or entire games - probably using the chess tempo Pgn viewer). The main thing holding me up here (other than time :-) ), is waiting for the next version of the forum software to be officially released, I believe it makes modifications to the forum much easier and more maintainable than the current version. The new version has been in beta for a while so hopefully there will be an official release soon.
Regards, Richard.

Black to move. Two winning solutions. &direction=reverse&ls_color=(240,217,181)&ds_color=(181,136,99)&square_size=50) You can see the full game here.

White to move. (White already has a huge material advantage, but this tactic convinced my opponent to resign.) &ls_color=(240,217,181)&ds_color=(181,136,99)&square_size=50) FYI, the whole game is here. There were a couple of other tactics in it -- one won a pawn, the other got a queen for a bishop but would have won less with a better response from Black.

White to move &ls_color=(240,217,181)&ds_color=(181,136,99)&square_size=50) You can see the complete game here. The game continued: 26. Rxb5 Qd8 27. Rxb8 Qxb8 28. Qb5 Qc8 29. Qxa4 Rc7?? 30. Re8+ 1-0. Twice he turned down material because he saw the back rank mate threat at e8, but then he missed a slightly different version.

I decided to give examples to simple short tactics that I talked about in another thread(I think that you can get sometimes similiar difficulty of problems in CTS at 1800 level and the examples are from 90+30 time control games in a tournament from september) Note that both of my opponents have fide rating near 2100(2071 and 2134 is their fide rating after the tournament when my fide rating is 2049) 1)My opponent blundered by Nf6-g8 and missed tactics. 2)My opponent played Nd3-f4 instead of the correct e4 and lost quickly
