Hi Richard

Am not sure if anyone else has suggested this (had a quick flip through and couldn't see anything), but would be very nice to have the option of showing the algebraic board coordinates around the board. Quite often notation given by people in comments is from the wrong side of the board. Also I find that (despite the obvious white/black knight in the right hand corner) I often find myself solving problems for the wrong colour!?

Another idea that would help with comments, would be to display the notation for the solution moves in a way that they could be pasted into and edited in the comment box.

Hi Roq,

I think coordinates would be fairly handy for exactly the reason you state, it makes it much more explicit which pieces you are playing with.  I'll add this one to the list.  I'd also like to provide notation output for the move sequences, and others have also requested PGN exporting.  I think adding an ability for the forums to embed a board showing problems as well as arbitrary positions into the forum posts would also be very useful.  If only I had time to get to all of these :-)

Regards,
Richard.

Yup, that kind of thing, but with full PGN not just FEN.  Some of the big chess forums have this already but given we already have the board here, it shouldn't be too hard to integrate. Also instead of saying, "Problem #4441 really sucks".  It would be nice if users could say, "Problem #441 really sucks, and here is the board so you can see:" :-)

Hi Richard

The generator for the board above  is from the site chessvideos.tv (a fun sight where members can create videos of their triumphs and disasters as well as generally discuss chess topics - recommended if you haven't found it already).

However, I do notice that people don't include positions in posts that often, probably because it takes a bit of time and effort to set them up. One idea that might work is to set the # to be a tag when followed by a number so that when a user types "problem #441 sucks" #441 would appear in underlined blue (or whatever) and link directly to that problem in the set.

Thanks Roq,

I think you are right, the #number underline is probably the cleanest way to do it.  Users can use a move explicit tag if they want to actually embed a board.

Richard.
