Hi,

Can you show the origin of the problem. It has been mentioned that the problems are from real games. Would it be possible to show for example after the problem is solved that from which game the situation is coming from? who played it and when. It would be cool Smiley   of course if the origin is unknown then that would be displayed.

I agree, that would be neat.  How about a one-click HTML link to the game itself on chessgames.com?  They have Java game viewing software there and an area for each game where users can trade comments about it.

I think Richard has this on his "to do" list along with providing a time machine telescope that lets us all look back at the actual tournament and see the game winner smiling smugly as he plays the key move onto the board while the loser writhes in agony.  :-)

Part of the problem is that I'm using a fairly haphazard collection of games as a starting point for the search , some are well known GM games, others are relatively anonymous games played on online chess sites, unfortunately, not all of them have reliable tags for players/tournament involved.  I'll have a closer look at how much reliable data there is then and assess if it's worth publishing the source data.

Richard.

Ok, but would it be possible to show the origin IF it is available. Of course it doesn't have to be shown for each problem.

When you read books or magazines or websites with problems the origin is usually always mentioned. It just is habit to show it, for information completeness and then it is easy to follow up the whole game if you are interested.

Also move number would be nice if available, and time control. Maybe it would be easy to notice that some mistake was made because of time scramble or an opening error... etc...

thanks,

A friend is helping out with some new features that will make it much easier to add this capability (as well as provide a number of other training possibilities tactical and otherwise).  It is still probably a couple of months away as development is in the early stages at the moment, but when it is finished I'll add the game origin information to the tactics display where available.

Richard.
