On the users page there are often entries for users who have done only a single or a few problems. It might be an idea to have a certain number of problems (say 100) during which a users rating is provisional. Then on the users page you could have a check box:

Show Provisional Ratings:  [X]

if checked provisional users would be included in red.

Also it would be nice if on the home page you could click a button at the bottom of the top ten lists to get the full lists sorted on the same criteria (i.e. Blitz Rating, Standard Rating etc).

Stats are fun!

Hi Roq,

At the moment the userlist only includes "active" users (those with less than a certain RD).  The reason there are some users with small numbers of problems is that they have probably done a few more problems recently in the other ratings type, i.e. they have done only 1 or 2 blitz problems, but may have done hundreds of standard problems recently (at least this is how it is supposed to work, if you think there are users who have only done 1 or 2 problems in BOTH rating forms then please let me know as this would be a bug).  This system is also used for the top 10 lists on the front page so that users must be considered "active" to appear in the lists, users who have done only small numbers of problems or have not done any problems recently are not displayed in the top 10 lists.

I'm planning to have a more extensive set of statistics available  In fact I have a fairly long list of improvements I'd like to implement across the entire site. Unfortunately, at the moment I have not had the spare time to get any done.  I'm hoping this will change soon :-)

Regards,
Richard.

Well maybe you might consider splitting the lists so that blitz and standard ratings appear in different lists. I haven't tried standard yet, because i think the presence of a ticking clock is so important - But I suppose that when I retire and, instead of playing real games, turn in the evening of my life to studying the great games of the ancient masters whilst sitting besides the hearth with my old briar pipe and slippers I might wish to languidly consider the tactical problems in standard mode Smiley

I like the scene with the briar pipe and slipper :-)

I think probably the best thing would be to have the checkbox you'd previously mentioned and also a "standard/blitz" option choice.  That we you only see one of each at a time and also have the option of seeing the non-active members whereas at the moment you only see members who are active in at least one rating form.

I'll add this to the todo (although there are a number of more pressing features I'd like to get to first, so don't hold your breath :-)  ).

Regards,
Richard.
