Hi all.

Any clue why, in the "Vote for the quality" section of a problem, I cannot see the stars?

I am attaching a snapshot to show what I mean - I see the section, but there is no stars there.

I am using Safari 3.1.2 on Windows XP SP2.

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is a known issue on safari, I haven't tracked down if it is a bug in safari or in the star code, I suspect the former as it works fine in all other browsers I tested with.  I keep hoping the next version of Safari will start magically working, but this hasn't happened yet :-).

I'd suggest against using IE and for using Firefox 3.  Firefox is a significantly better browser, and has far few safety/security issues as compared to IE.

Yep you are right, but I need to have IE (work complaint, preinstalled), I use Safari for personal applications, and I am not really into installing yet another browser...
thanks for the hint though!

If your choices are between safari and IE i'd probably stick to Safari, that star issue is the only Safari issue I'm aware of , but there are a few stability issues with IE (especially IE 6, but also some with IE 7) and the Chesstempo javascript code.

FF3 is the best choice from the point of view that it is the main browser I develop under, so it gets a lot more testing than the other platforms.  I do try to test the other browsers before uploading major new UI updates, but Firefox still gets by far the most testing.

Actually I have been having some crashes using CT under IE, I guess I will stick to Safari.
It's a pity, because I liked the quality rating feature, but I'd rather go for stability at this point!

Time to go back to my desperation and pool of sadness: I just missed a very silly problem, where the Queen was just hanging, and I have been looking for complex sacrifices... something I have the feeling I will never get learn  Sad

Those still get me.  It's an optical illusion some of us can be prone to despite being relatively strong on other types of position.  See a partial list at http://chesstempo.com/chess-forum/general_chess_tactics_discussion/if_memory_serves-t349.0.html

The nice thing about Chess Tempo is that it compresses a whole week-long tournament's worth of misery into an hour of desperate problem-solving.  Just think what we save in entry fees!

After a while on CT (on the order of months it seems; YMMV) you realize you're only human and then you stop being miserable.

Sorry for seeing your post only now, Revenant!

I totally agree with you, and I now made a point and changed my behavior when doing tactics: I first of all start by checking if any piece is hanging, then I follow the usual course of action (stare at the chessboard, swear a bit, and finally do a random move  Grin )

Cheers,

Andrea
