I've just finished another tournament. I played badly, but I managed to earn 5 ELO points and my March raying wil be 2203 (I don't think I'll play anything during those 2 months). Will that give me a CM title? I can't find any information, I only know that in USA it gives CM and in Poland it gives "kandydat na mistrza" (k), which is equivalent to CM. But does it also work by FIDE?

Yes,

1.3    Those titles gained by achieving a published rating at some time or other:
1.31    FIDE Master    ≥2300
1.32    Candidate Master    ≥2200
1.33    Women FIDE Master    ≥2100
1.34    Women Candidate Master ≥2000

But at your level, I would aim for the IM or FM title Smiley

Ahh I see..

But when I think about it. You still have to pay for the title I think.

I had to pay FIDE 100 Swiss Francs to get the FIDE Master title.  I don't know what the fee is for CM.  In some countries the national chess federation pays for the title, but in most (such as Slovakia) the player has to pay.  I don't know about Poland.

Not unless you actually have the title. Having a good enough rating isn't enough.

I don't know (and don't care either) about chess.com policy regarding titled players, but CM isn't considered a titled player for e.g. playing the required number of titled players for a (IM/GM) norm, at least a FM is required (in addition to at least 2 GMs or 3 IMs).

  • 1.45 Titles of opponents
  • 1.45a At least50% of theopponents shall be title-holders (TH) as in 0.31, excluding CM and WCM. For exact numbers see table in 1.7.

Application Fees for Titles

(Woman) Grandmaster: 330 Euro
(Woman) International Master: 165 Euro
(Woman) FIDE Master: 70 Euro
(Woman) Candidate Master: 50 Euro
International Arbiter: 100 Euro
FIDE Arbiter: 50 Euro

Not that it matters, but for the record I think that FIDE taking a dime for CM and FM titles is a disgrace. IM and GM take processing and checking validity of title norms, but these titles should have updated automatically once the player achieves the required rating, without this corrupted, incompetent organization taking money for it.
My advice Kacper, save the money at least until you get the FM.
BTW, I'm entitled to a FIDE Arbiter, and unlike you, will have to pay if I want to be IA some day (which may also require deleting some parts of posts like this one...  Wink ).

Play a little better and be patient, soon you will have the FM or IM and than you have free account at chess.com and free tournament playing  Smiley

I agree, FIDE is corrupt and just trying to make money.  Does it really take twice as much work to verify and process GM norms as it does for IM norms?  No.  So why is the fee twice as much for the GM title?  Only because FIDE thinks someone who has earned the GM title will be willing to pay more money to get it than someone who has earned the IM title!
